“Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life.” — Jerzy Gregorek, Weightlifting Olympic Coach

“Water seeks low ground.“— Mencius

The natural tendency of man is close to the law of gravity. Unless we build up, its much easier to be unawares and go down further.

Formula for the law of gravitation

It’s easier to go south than to go north. Once you go down, its harder to go up. Momentum brings you further down.

Think basketball or American Football.

For the seasoned basketball player, one knows that the resistance by the defense is when you move toward the basket-the goal. The direction of the goal matters, you want to try to get as close to the basket as possible to do a lay-up. The tactics to get there to beat the resistance or defensive force, such as crossovers, spin-moves, and fakes, are simply done to move the ball forward to get the layup. Same as for American Football. The tactics don’t matter or are even a waste when done to an excess. The tactics themselves are only vehicles or tools to get you effectively towards your goal.

My GM, who is departing from the company, in one of our last meetings, mentioned this to me.

The first step in solving a calculus problem is important.

The first step in setting up the right question is all important.

Most people are lost because they forget the general direction they want to go. If you want to go North, but all the solutions you want to put forward make you go South, then you just get more lost.

As a conclusion, you have to know your North, or at least the upward direction you want to go. The tactics will never help unless they bring you to that direction.
